This Clock Follows the Sun
Where is the Sun right now? When does it rise, and when does it set? The Solar Altitude Clock illustrates what is happening in the sky – and how the Sun’s path changes over the course of the year. Its single hand not only shows the hour, but also carries a small sun disc along on its daily journey.
How is that possible?
A 24-hour movement moves the hand around the dial once a day. The sun disc on the hand is adjusted by hand to reflect the season. Together with the dark blue night disc, it shows the direction of the Sun, where on the horizon sunrise and sunset take place, and the changing duration of day and night. The night disc is interchangeable and can be adjusted for any location between the North Pole and the equator.
It can even be adjusted to daylight savings time
The trick is this: when the clocks change, it is not the hand that is moved, but the movable ring bearing the hour numerals. This ensures the time is correct again – and the Sun remains in its place.
Astronomical clocks are often precious masterpieces. This kit brings their fascination to your own wall at an affordable price. With its stylish cherry wood and brass print, it also goes beautifully with our moon clock.
