More than 40 years ago, this ingeniously simple calculator without electricity and display was standard equipment at school - today the slide rule is not only a sought-after collector's item, but still an exciting teaching tool to illustrate arithmetics.
It is very easy to use: all you have to do is set the ‘1’ on the tongue of the movable centre element to the desired number and you can read off any multiplication from the line of the cursor. Divisions, inverse, square and cube numbers, as well as roots are just as easy.
