Red light for clear vision
Why is our mini torch the perfect companion for the night? Anyone who has ever switched on a light at night will know: at first, you’re practically blinded and can’t see a thing. When you switch the light off again, it takes quite a while for your eyes to readjust to the darkness. Your vision is once again impaired.
This is due to rhodopsin, a pigment produced by the eye in the dark which greatly enhances the eye’s sensitivity to light. White light breaks down this pigment in a very short space of time, causing light sensitivity to drop sharply – hence the feeling that you are almost blind. Red light, on the other hand, has no effect on rhodopsin.
