Using simple materials, the Bottle Tornado impressively demonstrates the interaction between water and air in a very small space.
You will need two plastic bottles, one of which you should fill two-thirds full with water. Now connect the two bottles using the Bottle Tornado. You may need to press the bottom bottle gently so that the air escapes upwards, making room for the flowing water. The exchange of air and water now creates an impressive whirlpool or tornado, just like the ones you see in your own bath or in nature films. Adding some watercolour makes the whirlpool even easier to see!
