Discovering colour spectra – with 1,000 lines per millimetre

The high line density of this grating produces a particularly broad light spectrum. The resulting image is similar to that produced by a prism, except that in the case of a prism we speak of light refraction, whereas with a grating we speak of light diffraction. Every type of light produces its own characteristic spectrum when viewed or projected through the film containing the grating.
